Description

This charming little incense burner (kōro) by Ikai Yūichi is done in an ash glaze with iron-rich brushed details.  It is a lovely example of how nature inspires his work and, for this piece, a simple bamboo shoot served as his muse.

Although kōro of this type are traditionally used for holding pieces of smoldering charcoal upon which powdered incense is burned, this piece can accommodate stick or cone types as well.  Incense is used while the lid is off, wafting through the holes for a time when the lid is replaced.
