Shino Green Tea Cup by Suzuki Tomio
Hailing from Kyoto's Yawata District, Suzuki Tomio has reinvigorated the world of shino with his provocative clay creations of incredible tactile richness and creative energy.
There are times, however, when the artist makes a respectful nod to the quieter shino works of old, and this lovely piece is just that. A simple glaze of feldspar and water forms a citrus skin-like texture when cooling in the kiln, and the resulting bone white interior of the cup effectively shows off the color and clarity of green tea served within.
For hot or cold green tea or iced tea.
Suzuki Tomio's shino pottery is held in private collections around the world and, in 2011, was acquired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art for display in their East Asian Art collection.
