Description

A magnificent iron glazed stoneware vase by mingei potter Kawai Tōru.  He is the grandnephew of Kawai Kanjiro and the last to study under the legendary master.

Over the years, Kawai Tōru has refined his own particular style of pottery  - one that focuses on clean lines and complex geometric forms.  Upwardly twisting facets (mentori), swirling vortexes, and flared rims are the trademarks of his craft and show a level of technical skill unseen in the works of former mingei masters.

This striking mentori vase takes its name from caramelized sugar, or amé in Japanese.  It makes the ideal centerpiece for any Japanese-inspired interior.
