Shino pottery was first fired during the Momoyama era (1568-1603) at kilns in Minō - central Japan.  Glazed with a simple mixture of mostly feldspar and water, shino is renowned for its textured, citrus skin-like surface.

Hailing from Kyoto's Yawata District, Suzuki Tomio has reinvigorated the world of shino with his provocative clay creations of incredible tactile richness.  Like this inspired beer glass.  It is done in nezumi (literally "mouse") shino, as denoted by its mostly soft grey color.  Textured with crackles of feldspar and bold brushed details, it makes a striking piece that is sure to become a beer lover's most cherished vessel.

Best when chilled before use.  Also well suited for iced green tea.

See Suzuki Tomio's Hanshin Gallery exhibition for more from his 2009 collection.
