Tomio Suzuki's shino creations
are renowned for their tactile richness, and this inspired murasaki
(purple) shino kofuku tea
bowl epitomizes his unique approach to pottery making. While
cooling in the kiln, the thick feldspar overglaze shrinks tightly
around the clay body, forming a textured landscape of pinholes and
crackles that invites intimate exploration with eyes and hands.
Kofuku ("small drink") tea bowls are made especially for outdoor or "garden" tea
parties. Their smaller size makes them easier to tote around,
usually in a nodate basket containing all the necessary tea
utensils, to scenic spots for cherry blossom or momiji (autumn maple)
viewing; some even bring them to the cemetery to share tea with the
beloved departed. Considered to be more daily ware, kofuku tea
bowls lack the strict formality usually associated with cha-no-yu
tea ceremony.

A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by
the artist. Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.
