One of the most noteworthy aspects of Tomio
Suzuki's artistry is the individuality of each piece. His unique
style of
forming and glazing assures that no two works are ever the same, and this striking tea ceremony bowl is no exception.
It is done in the
Mr. Suzuki's signature kokuyosai (shimmering black) glaze. A manganese-rich
base glaze
is first applied and then drip detailed with aka (red) and white
feldspar. The end result is an inspired chawan imbued with a
deep sense of strength and swirling, heated energy.
Formed entirely by hand with coils of mogusa clay, the bowl
is lightweight and balanced perfectly upon a footring roughly crafted
with the aid of a simple tree branch. When filled with whipped matcha, the
stark contrast between the emerald green of the tea and the colors of
the bowl is absolutely stunning.
Red display cloth (fukusa) included.

A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by
the artist. Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.
