This sake cup by Tomio Suzuki represents traditional shino - a style of pottery originating in Japan more than 450 years ago during the Momoyama era.  Its characteristic pinholes and crackles form as the feldspar glaze shrinks tightly around the body while cooling in the kiln.  The face of the cup holds iron-rich brushed details applied in quick, energetic strokes.

See Tomio Suzuki's Hanshin Gallery exhibition for more from his 2007 collection.
