No other tea ceremony utensil has
quite the same
spiritual function as kouro. Incense wafting from the holes
in the lid helps to clear the mind, making participants more attuned
to the Zen principles of harmony, reverence, purity and tranquility.
More than just mere burners, kouro should be both
decorative and contemplative pieces themselves.
This shino incense burner by Tomio Suzuki is
quite that. It is done in a base of aka (red) shino and accented with feldspar drip
details. The depth of color in the iron-rich glaze is
spectacular. Its wide base is deftly sculpted with irregular facets that
give the piece a modular, geometric feel - like a puzzle asking to be
solved.
Kouro of this type are traditionally used for holding pieces of
smoldering charcoal upon which powdered incense is burned. This
piece can easily accommodate stick or cone-type incense
as well.

A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by
the artist. Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.
