This kofuku tea bowl is done in Tomio Suzuki's signature yohen shino glaze.  The product of nearly a decade of experiment and refinement, yohen shino has a rich, golden sheen over a textured landscape of pinholes and crackles that sparkle when the bowl is turned.  It is a glaze truly unique in the world of shino and has become the focus of Mr. Suzuki's art.  Deftly formed in a half-cylinder shape, the bowl is lightweight and perfectly balanced.  When filled with the verdant color of whipped matcha green tea, it gains its full character and is a sight to behold.

Kofuku ("small drink") tea bowls are made especially for outdoor or "garden" tea parties.  Their smaller size makes them easier to tote around, usually in a nodate basket containing all the necessary tea utensils, to scenic spots for cherry blossom or momiji (autumn maple) viewing; some even bring them to the cemetery to share tea with the beloved departed.  Considered to be more daily ware, kofuku tea bowls lack the strict formality usually associated with cha-no-yu tea ceremony.

A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by the artist.  Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.

See Tomio Suzuki's Hanshin Gallery exhibition for more from his 2007 collection.
