This striking beer glass by Wada Hiroaki was fired in the haikaburi (ash covered) technique at Oizumi-gama.  It was placed right in front of the flue - the ventilation window which joins both chambers of the kiln and the area where heat and pressure are highest.  At a temperature of 1,250°C (2,300°F), the clay body became a molten, quivering mass, nearly collapsing in upon itself.  Luckily, it survived the grueling process and was born from the kiln with a gently undulating form.

During firing, swirling embers of red pine fused with the kohiki clay slip, forming amber colored patches on the side facing the flames.  Full of warmth and unique character, it is sure to become a beer drinker's favorite.

Best when chilled before use.

A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by the artist.  Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.

See Wada Hiroaki & Wada Tozan's Daimaru Gallery Exhibition pictorial for works from their recent collection.
