Kohiki is a type of high-fired stoneware developed in Japan by Korean potters in the 1500s.  Used extensively by tea ceremony practitioners, its simple, rustic charm is considered well suited to the principles of cha-no-yu.

This sake set by Hiroaki Wada is awash in the colors of kohiki.  Subtle gradations of light orange and pink form during reduction firing, and both pieces effectively show the markings of slight temperature variations.

The ideal acquisition for the sake aficionado.

See Hiroaki Wada & Tozan Wada's Daimaru Gallery Exhibition pictorial for more from their 2006 collection.
