A magnificent iron glazed
stoneware vase by mingei potter Kawai Toru. He is the grandnephew of
Kawai Kanjiro and the last to study under the legendary master. Over
the years, he has refined his own particular style of pottery - one that focuses
on clean lines and complex geometric forms. Upwardly twisting facets
(mentori), swirling vortexes, and flared rims are the trademarks of
his craft and show a level of technical skill unseen in the works of
former mingei masters.
The glaze takes its name from caramelized sugar, or amé in
Japanese. It comes with a signed wooden presentation box (ki-bako) made
to order.
Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.
