No other tea ceremony accessory has quite the same spiritual function as kōro.  Incense wafting from the holes in the lid helps to clear the mind, making participants more attuned to the tranquility inside the tea room.

More than just mere burners, though, kōro should be decorative and eye-catching pieces as well.  This ginsho tenmoku incense burner by Kamada Kōji is certainly that.  The monolithic strength of the iron glaze commands attention but is tamed by the elegant and skillfully formed spherical base.  Golden highlights which appear around all edges and low-relief lines (tsuisen) add a touch of luxury and geometric sophistication that radiates from the top down.

Although kōro of this type are traditionally used for holding pieces of smoldering charcoal upon which powdered incense is burned, this piece can accommodate stick types when placed in a bed of ash inside.  It also makes the ideal accessory for any Japanese-influenced interior or modern decor.

See Kamada Kōji's 40th Year Commemorative Exhibition for more works from his 2008 collection.

A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by the artist.  Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.
