Many of the Song era tenmoku tea bowls introduced to Japan in the 12th century were done in a lustrous black glaze with streams of rust red running toward their center.  Tenmoku specialist Kamada Kōji reverses the style set long before him and introduces his own spirited rendition with this lovely kakiyu kokuhan sake cupThe glaze takes its name from the brownish orange color of dried persimmon, called kaki in Japanese, which are found hanging from balconies in Japan in autumn.

See Kamada Kōji's 40th Year Commemorative Exhibition for more works from his 2008 collection.
