In his 40 years working in tenmoku, Koji Kamada
has developed a number of outstanding signature glazes. This
alluring guinomi (sake cup) is done in his suisei tenmoku.
While cooling in the kiln, an intricate web of wood ash forms just
below the glassy surface - details which provoke viewers to ponder the
mystery of their creation. Below this gossamer, a small
amount of cobalt in the glaze effectively captures the colors of the
deep sea where sunlight yields to darkness.
Handcrafted to a wafer thinness, the cup is lightweight and perfectly balanced.
A contemplative gem for any sake connisseur.

40th Year Commemorative Exhibition for more works from his 2008 collection.
