Also included in Ikai Yuichi's diverse glazing
repertoire is celadon. Called seiji in Japanese, the
glaze is characterized by fine cracks (called kanyu) which form
beneath a glassy surface while cooling in the kiln. For these
details to develop sufficiently, the most exacting kiln conditions
have to be met, thus making seiji one of the most difficult ceramic
techniques to master.
Ikai Yuichi is proud to present this lovely set of celadon green tea
cups - a testament to his devotion to the seiji technique.
Glassy layers, two or thee layers deep, add a multidimensional quality
to the cups and appear illuminated from behind by a powdery blue.
The set is called meioto (his & hers), with one cup formed
slightly taller than the other. For hot or cold green tea or
iced tea enjoyed, of course, together.
